Saint-Sernin college

The public lycée Saint-Sernin is one of the principal colleges of Toulouse. It is located at the center town, and gives on the Saint-Sernin place, place where the Basilique Saint-Sernin is located. With the College Fermat, it is the largest college of the department.

The college consists of several buildings (7 in all): the buildings has and B go back to 1993, but the buildings D (current TDCI), F (convent of Benedictines) and G (Hôtel Dubarry) are much older.

History

The college created in 1882 was in the beginning the college of young girls of Toulouse, the Lycée Fermat being that of boys. It contains many buildings, mixing old and recent, among which some classified with the national heritage, the such Hôtel Dubarry, where the current secretariat of the Headmaster is located. The name " Saint-sernin" comes from that of the district: Saint-Saturnin having been condemned to death, it was attached to a bull and was trailed in the city. The bond broke on the place, and the body of Saint-Saturnin currently rests in the basilica. This event is also at the origin of the name of the street of Taur (Taur meaning the Bull; the street connects Saint-Sernin to the Capitole) and street Matabiau (place where one succeeded with " mater" the bull.). Teaching

  • the Saint-Sernin college is a public lycée of mainstream education, having the reputation to be a literary college. Activities and animations

Boarding school
