Saint-Rémy-on-Durolle

Saint-Rémy-on-Durolle is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area of Auvergne.

Its inhabitants name Saint-Rémois.

Denomination

Current name was instituted in 1789. Previously, the commune was named Saint-Rémy-on-Thiers .

Geography

The commune is located at 375 km of Paris, 140 km of Lyon, 47 km of Clermont-Ferrand, 40 km of Vichy and 8 km of Thiers. It is fixed on the slopes of Wood Blacks in extreme cases of the Monts of Drill.

The Durolle does not pass to Saint-Rémy but low, with Monnerie-le-Montel.

A Water level was created, in the Sixties, to constitute a base of leisures. It is the " water level of the prades"

History

It is rather difficult to know on which date the first houses were built on the site of current the Agglomération. One finds no trace of the commune before 1107.

At the Feudal beginning of the time E certain Boldier - coming from Chignat- settled with the Martignat locality. He is the founder of the family of the " Counting frames of Chariol" (become " thereafter; Face of Chariol"). This family made thrive and grow the Hameau of the time which became the current one Saint-Rémy-on-Durolle.

The commune of Saint-Rémy-on-Durolle formerly gathered the communes of Palladuc and Monnerie-le-Montel. The “independence” of these communes took place in 1908 respectively and 1932.

On the principal place, very pretty Gothic church of the 15th century decorated with the ecus of kings de France and Of Face With Chariol, Lord S of Saint-Rémy-on-Durolle. It was renovated in 1997.

The church is characterized by its austerity and its square and strengthened bell-tower. The legend wants that with the Révolution, the Saint-Remy cheese lords were constrained to cross the church to horse, being made “spit” by peasants installed in the spans and armed with lances.
