History

In the Years 1960, to face the fast development of the Paris and its suburbs, one decided to control it and balance it by creating several new cities around Paris.

The development of the first Town planning and Master development plan (SDAU) was entrusted to Paul Delouvrier, acting general with the District of the Area of Paris of 1961 to 1969, which was for this reason regarded as the father of the new cities.

To the west of Paris, the choice was made on the site of Saint-Quentin, at the time very little urbanized, except the small town of Trappes.

Decided as of 1965, the establishment of the new city will be done in several stages:

  • October 21st 1970: creation of the Public corporation of installation of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines (EPASQY).
  • August 11th 1972: definition of the perimeter of the new city of Saint-Quentin-in-Yvelines, including/understanding eleven communes (seven current communes, more Wood-D' Arcy, Coignières, Maurepas and Pleasure).
  • December 21st 1972: creation of the Community Trade union of installation of the new agglomeration (SCAAN).
  • July 13rd 1983: the law Rocard amends of the new cities.
  • December 23rd 1983: four communes leave the new city (Wood-D' Arcy, Coignières, Maurepas and Plaisir).
  • June 29th 1984: the Syndicat of new agglomeration (SAN) replaces the SCAAN.
  • December 31st 2002: end of the mission and dissolution of the EPA.
  • January 2003: decree of completion of the new city.
