Saint-Paul-in-Jarez

Saint-Paul-in-Jarez is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants are called Sampoutaires.

Geography

Saint-Paul-in-Jarez is a main door in the Regional natural park of Pilat to 20 km in the east of Saint-Etienne.

History

Old name: Saint-Paul-in-bulge (Bulletins of the laws) until 1914.
  • the village is mentioned as of the 10th century.

  • the old strengthened borough, seigniory of the Lyonese under the Old Mode.
  • the nickname given to the villagers of Saint-Paul-in-Jarez: " Dindes" .
  • a picturesque quarrel of bell-towers between Saint-Paul-in-Jarez and Farnay found its conclusion only in 1790, when the administration detached Farnay of Saint-Paul.
  • It yielded on April 27th 1847, (with Farnay/Bank-with-Gier; Saint-Genis-Terrenoire today Genilac) part of its territory which will become Lorette.
  • In 1860, part of the territory of Saint-Paul-in-Jarez and of that of Cellieu gave rise to the Grand Cross.
  • It yielded finally in 1905, (with Saint-Julien-in-Jarez) part of its territory which will become Horme.

  • days of the Trades of Art : Last weekend of September

  • the quintaine and the vogue : Running January

  • the quintaine is a FĂȘte during which " classards" break a box containing of chalk. Before it was filled of pencil leads crashed to pieces but following the closing of the Factories Marchioness, the tradition was abandoned. It was taken again a few years later, with powder of pencil lead coming from another factory

It should be known that at the beginning of this tradition (more than 350 years) they was turkey entrails which the inhabitants launched out to the figure
