Etymology of the place
Saint Patroclus - or called Holy Patrocle and thereafter Saint-Parres - would have given its name to the commune, as for Saint-Parres-the-Vaudes.
" in Tertres" would come that the hillock of Saint-Parres-with-Hillocks (where there exists a church on Gallo-Roman vestiges) would have been a place of execution. It could be that name comes quite simply from the hillocks present on the site (hillocks of grounds or vestiges of the Gallic/Celtic tombs).
Saint-Parres was decapitated and would have been it with Saint-Parre-with-Hillocks. Then it would have been raised and carried its head to speak.
History
Saint-Parres is located at two kilometers of Troyes, on the top of the hill called Mount-of-Idols, where holy Parres, noble citizen of Troyes, suffered martyrdom in year 275. It is in the place where it was buried that the Eusèbe archpriest, when the presécution had ceased, made build a vault become later a parish, under the patronage of Patrocle saint. The current church was built about the first years of XVIe century.
