Saint-Pamphile is a city of the Quebec, located in the regional Municipalité of county of Islet, in the administrative area of the Boiler-Appalachian Mountains. At the canado-American border, Saint-Pamphile counts a customs house connecting to us to the Maine.

Central city of the 7 surrounding parishes, it is in Saint-Pamphile that one finds, amongst other things, the CLSC of the Appalachian Mountains and the secondary school the Meeting.

History

The first colonist to be established in Saint-Pamphile was Mr Frederic Vaillancourt, originating in the municipality of Saint-Aubert, in 1859. In spite of the rocky grounds, many colonists came to try their chance on the territory which, in 1889, accepted officially the title of municipality of Saint-Pamphile. It would have however to be waited until 1963 so that Saint-Pamphile reaches the legal statute of city.

Demography

One counts, in 2005,2804 individuals on an total surface area of 136,8 km ². What makes a ratio of 20,5 personnes/km ².

Economy

The economic main activity of the area is wood-cutting. One counts two large companies of raw material transformation: Maibec and Matériaux Strainer.

Tourism

The Festival of Bûcheux is always held the last complete end of the week of August. It emphasizes a multitude of sports activities pointing out the predominance of the forest activity in the area. Punctuated forest competitions, spectacles in all kinds (humor, songs, sport, dance…), this go annual offers to the participants lamb barbecues, peak-nics, tournaments of golf, etc the event attracts on average a little more than 25.000 visitors each year.
