Geography

History

In 1662 of the glassmakers originating in Lorraine came to be installed on Saint Nicolas's Day. They found here in Bourbonnaise Mountain sand, water and the fern essential to the manufacture of glass; clay necessary to the construction of the furnaces was also present there. During 120 years they were devoted to their art, helped by an important local and Venetian labor. The gobeletery produced in great quantity was sold to hawkers who traversed the countryside in order to run out their goods. This glass tradition is presented to the Museum of the Glassmaker, where a furnace of size identical to those of the 17th century is reconstituted; archaeological parts, a museum of glass and vidéos offer to the visitors the occasion to find this local history as well as relative informations with the manufacture of glass in Mountain Bourbonnaise.Dans years 1930 of many glass sites were discovered and excavated by a Vichy-native doctor, Doctor Leon Chabrol. In the years 1990 Pierre-Yves Blettery decided to create a museum recalling this history. Currently some voluntary animates this open museum in July and August the afternoon, and the remainder of the year on go SUCH 04 70 56 49 15
