History
It is into 1875 that colonists of Jonquière and Chicoutimi are interested in the Taché canton projected by the government of Quebec. These good grounds boards and wooded prove to be a gold mine for colonists. In spite of a petition of an about sixty names, it is not when 1879 that Goerges B. Tremblay surveys the territory and presents his report/ratio with the governmental authorities.
The absence of ways and resources slows down colonization until 1890, the year when the bishop of the Diocèse organizes a forwarding to find the site of the future church and the name of the mission: Saint-Nazaire is then baptized in the honor of Mgr Louis-Nazaire Bégin.
Thanks to grounds argillaceous and rich in alluvia, the economic life of Saint-Nazaire depends almost exclusively on agriculture until the arrival of the Duke-Price company in 1925. As from this moment, the canton will gradually lose its farmers who prefer the wages offered by industries of Alma.
The municipality is recorded officially in council in September 1905 and the catholic parish is canonically set up on May 16th, 1913.
