Saint-Moritz (in German Sankt-Moritz and in Romanche San Murezzan ) is a common Suisse of the canton of the Grisons located in the district of Majola (rm. Maloggia )
Saint-Moritz is a winter sports resort considered, one of oldest of the world since 1864.
The station is divided into two parts: Saint-Moritz-Dorf (1822 meters of altitude), the village itself, gathered around a tilted tower (bell-tower of the Saint-Mauritius church) and Saint-Moritz-Bad (1774 meters of altitude), with the mouth of Inn in the lake, where the most recent hotels and the hydropathic establishments are.
By the position which it occupies, the station of Saint-Moritz is a crossroads of Swiss and international tourist routes. It is spread out in step above its lake.
The skiables fields of Piz Corvatsch (3303 m of altitude) and of Piz Nair (3057 m of altitude) overhang the station.
The communal territory culminates in Piz Güglia/Julier (3380 m of altitude).
The church of Saint-Moritz is mentioned for the first time in an official document in 1139.
Saint-Moritz was the first commune of Switzerland to be lit with the electric light (1878). It was also the first to inaugurate a ski-lift (1935).
