Saint-Michel-of-Chavaignes

Saint-Michel-with-Chavaignes is a common French, located in the department of the the Sarthe and the area Pays of the Loire.
Its inhabitants is called the " Chavaignais".
Old names:
Savinaria (dubious); seu of Campo Vineo; Sti-Michaeli de Chavaigneo; Chavaigne-on-Nogue in 1793.
In Antiquity: The inhabitants were called “Wizard”.
Can be because placed in the past as in a desert, in the middle of escarpées hills
and on a roofed-in and marshy area, deprived of ways, they lived isolated and without communication with their neighbors,
whose superstitious ignorance would have shown them to flee the company of the men, to maintain more freely

Religious heritage
Church registered with the Historic buildings since June 20th, 1952.
The panelled nave and the chorus are decorated of a fresco on wood of almost 300m ² carried out by Pierre Honore Chadaigne about 1859, relayed by the Dubois painter of Chartres in 1861.
Between each farm of the frame, the months are delimited as well as the days which them are illustrated by the representation of a Saint. The months are registered at the top of the vault.

Events
- In 1779, an epidemic dysentery decimated, in less than two months, the population of Saint Michel.
The inhabitants, precisely frightened, decided the closing of the cemetery which surrounded the church, and made
the acquisition of the ground where was open immediately that current, thus receiving the many victims of this epidemic, of which the priest of the Martin.

There does not remain old cemetery, whose ground, converted into a small place, rose above that of the borough, that a species of slope which is used as a basis for the église.
