Saint-Michel-and-Chanveaux

Saint-Michel-and-Chanveaux are a common French, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire and the area Pays of the Loire.

Geography

History

At the time of the French revolution (1789), the Lord of the country was Louis Auguste Victor de Ghaisne, count de Bourmont, but in 1830, refusing to serve Louis-Philippe it leaves for Italy, after having sold with the family of Rochefoucauld its possessions of Saint-Michel and Chanveaux.

Rene-Aubin Lemonnier of Foucheraie was Curé Saint Michel with the revolution, it had been named in Saint-Michel in September 1777. Having refused to lend the oath, he was imprisoned with the seminar. When the priests were off-set in Spain, it went to embark in Nantes. But before the loading in September 1792 it fell sick and was locked up on September 20th with the Carmelite nuns in Nantes. It undergoes the fate of the Nantes priests and perishes drowned with the other old priests, in Nantes, on November 16th, 1793. August 31st, 1794, Republican and Royalistes delivered a combat to it: a body of 360 republican soldiers under the orders of the adjudant - Decaen general faced 500 chouans armed with rifles and 300 peasants with forks and reversed forgeries, ordered by the Général Sarazin which was killed on the roadway of the pond. Last confrontation of number between Blue and White in the area.
