Our churches and their bell-tower-comb

An architectural influence which we owe to the Benedictines. These monks who before going to St Jacques de Compostelle emphasized our grounds, developed our agriculture and diffused thanks to the companions the style of the cistercians abbeys with the image of Cîteaux or Cluny.

Our natural sites

Several natural sites give an additional attraction to our area. From many points of view offer an exceptional panorama to the walkers, such as Puy de Montabès (old oppidum), the castle of Thénières of the 12th century, the Peak of the Manor house with Montézic… Not far from there, the peninsula of Bez-Bédène takes shape, a village built on a rocky outcrop, which kept its at the same time wild and picturesque aspect. Let us not forget in edge of the Throats of Truyère, the site of the Jump of the Dog, a granite and water cascade, a single canyon in Aveyron.

Our lakes and rivers

The traditional economy is translated since unmemorable times by the use of water. Fullers, sawmills, forging mills and mills functioned thanks to its energy. Today the installation of our rivers makes it possible to produce electricity, while being integrated into the landscape and by supporting the tourist development, with the creation of many lakes and water levels. This successful marriage thus allowed the creation of three nautical bases which enable you to make a large variety of activities going from more resting with most sporting. The fishing, which formerly appeared necessary to the inhabitants of the area, has today very an other destination, that of the leisure and relaxation…

Agriculture

The plate of Viadène offers vast pastures where the bovine breeding prevails. It counts among its more beautiful assets, a race, " the Aubrac" race; , of the nursing cows recognized for their rusticity, facility of vêlage and aptitudes maternal. Qualities of the race and organizations of the men (associations, grouping, Herd-book…) with the key, the selection of the animals make breeding the first economic activity of the plate. In a few kilometers, Viadène is declined in slopes to the Batch, it is the " country of Coustoubis" : slopes on which grow vines and fruit trees, chestnuts and produced mâraichers. Overhanging the river, the vineyard although modest - hardly a few 9,5 hectares of vines - a good wine of country gives. A delicious nectar about which the type of vines speak the language about Oc, they are called Mansois and Négret de Banhars.

Our traditions

SKITTLES OF EIGHT

For a long time and until the beginning of the century, Aveyronnais played skittles, roughly speaking, like their neighbors, by cutting down them using a ball, at variable distances fixed by the players. The principle was simple and the Massif Central plain. But the trouble, says one, was born one day from the uniformity: an innovative spirit, undoubtedly wearied per such an amount of conformism, spiced the exercise by taking in the square with 9 skittles a skittle known as " joueuse" , which, struck of flown with the ball, was to kill its colleagues. The skittles of eight had been born, and all that the world counts of Aveyronnais gave up gradually with the novel mode. Started from Espalion, it was spread simultaneously in the department and in Paris where it undoubtedly contributed to reinforce the identity rouergate. It is besides to the members of the sporting section of the " Solidarity Aveyronnaise de Paris" that we must base current payment, written on June 6th, 1912. During several decades, fraternal competition between Rouergats remained with the country and " Parisiens" remained the vector of the development of the Skittles of eight in time and space. After having acquired their row among the official sports while entering to the French federation of the Sports of Skittles in 1957, they became impossible to circumvent today, at the same time identity and sporting phenomenon.

Then, so during your stay, with the turning of a way or the angle of a street, you hear tinkling characteristic of the skittles and balls which are entrechoquent, let you guide and come to taste our tradition in all its modernity.

In July and August, every Friday, at 9 p.m., St Mercies of Côts, Campouriez, Florentin or Huparlac (ask the place the Tourist office) come to discover this play. The players will explain you the rules of the game and will make you take part… but attention in your fingers!

Gastronomy

Our rustic origins results a rich and varied gastronomy. You will taste in this ground rouergate some specialities such as pork-butchery, tripoux, cabbages stuffed, farçous, aligot, truffade, cheeses of country, fouace…
