Saint-Maximin-the-Holy-Balsam
Saint-Maximin-the-Holy-Balsam (in Occitan Of Provence: Sant Maissemin of Santa Bauma according to the traditional standard or Sant Meissemin of Santo Baumo according to the Norme mistralienne) is a common French, located in the department of the Var and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.
Geography
Located in a small basin (bottom of an old lake) close to the sources of the Argens, Saint-Maximin-the-Holy-Balsam is announced to the attention by its admirable Basilique (sheltering, in addition, a so exceptional Orgue him).
History
Villa-Latta, small Gallo-Roman village, which after the death of Saint Maximin took its name, owes its celebrity since the 13th century with discovered tombs of Saint Maximin and Sainte Madeleine.According to the tradition, Marie-madeleine, after having spent long years of penitence in the cave of the Holy-Balsam, would have been buried in the crypt of Saint Maximin. Baume is the equivalent Provençal of cave .
The Relic S, hidden in 716 in fear of the Sarrasins which devastated the area, are discovered in 1279 by Charles of Anjou which, on the site of the Crypte, builds a Basilique and at side a Couvent. It installs there the Dominicains as guards of the tomb.
Charles IX passes in the city at the time of royal sound Tour de France (1564 - 1566), accompanied by the Cour and Large by the kingdom: his/her brother the duke of Anjou, Henri de Navarre, cardinal of Bourbon and Lorraine.
With the Revolution, the Dominican ones are driven out, but the basilica and the convent have good fortune to shelter Lucien Bonaparte, younger brother of Napoleon. It Marie, in 1794, with the girl of her landlord. Stirring up, good speaker, Lucien, known as Brutus, became president of the club local Jacobin. He establishes a deposit of vivres in the basilica and saves large the Orgue S while making there play the Marseillaise .

Since November 2004 the CGT of Territorial of the town hall of Saint-Maximin-the-Holy-Balsam, carries the claims of this community. Precariousness, wages, hygiene and safety, the Territorial public function is not saved by the regression of statutory employment and the Public service. CGT, its Federations, its Trade unions and its structures defend the employees of the private sector and the agents of the public.
The basilica

1295 - 1316 (apse and chorus): built on the site of an old church mérovingienne, within Pierre d' Augicourt, architect of kings de Naples, counts de Provence, work was undertaken and stopped during nearly one century.
1404: the crypt of the old church was levelled with height of the ground of the new basilica.
1508 - 1532: work was carried in the state where they are today.
With the external , the squat aspect of the basilica is due to the absence of Clocher, with its unfinished frontage, the Contrefort S solid masses which support, while rising very high, the walls of the Nef. There is neither Déambulatoire nor Transept.
The interior includes/understands a nave, a chorus and two Bas-côté S with the sober and pure lines. It is the most important example of Gothic style in Provence.
The basilica shelters, in addition, a exceptional Orgue, built of 1772 to 1774, crowning of the work of the Organ builder Jean-Spirit Isnard, helped of its nephew, Joseph.
