Commune baptized “Saint-Maurice-at-Satonnay” since March 1861, following the meeting by decree of the communes of Saint-Maurice-of-Meadows and Satonnay.

Belonging to the Canton of Lugny (71260) and to the the Community of communes of the Mâconnais-Valley of the Saone recently, Saint-Maurice-of-Satonnay is a typical Burgundian village, having many gilded stone-built houses, with their famous galleries mâconnaises…

Many vine growers and farmers are installed there, as well as craftsmen.

The inhabitants are named Grenouillats, because it would seem that formerly, they left to drive out the night frog for pemettre with the lord of the village, aggravated by the croacements of these batrachians, to sleep…

Each year, a fair settles the one weekend time (at the beginning of September - organized by the hearth rural), with many exhibitors among whom have counts craftsmen of art, mouth (with the assistance national of best goat's milk cheeses), vine growers and second-hand dealers and villager, through the vacuum attic.

There are also very pleasant and beautiful pond at the exit of the village, on the road of Clessé. It is a tourist place for " pleasure of the pêche" ; fishing with the blow (trouts, crackling…) or fishes it with the tench are possible there. It is also the starting point of several hiking roads through vines and under wood.

Without forgetting the trade of proximities, with a charming grocer (produced local, etc), a very good inn, lodgings and rooms of hosts…

Personalities related to the commune

Among the personalities attached to the common figure Bernard Barny de Romanet, born on January 28th, 1894 with the castle from Satonnay, which was one of the most glorious French aces of the First World War with eighteen official victories.
