Saint-Martin-the-Plain

Saint-Martin-the-Plain is a Commune Frenchwoman, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps. Its inhabitants is called the Martinaires Saint.
Geography
Located on the top of the valley of the Gier, Saint-Martin-the-Plain is located at 5 km of Bank-with-Gier and 25 km of Saint-Etienne.
History
The name of the commune would come from the holy bishop Martin de Tours, which would have pressed in its time the current grounds of the village.The common one made industrial great strides with 19th: in 1900 many forging mills was fed by coal extracted the mines located on the bottom of the village, and agricultural (it is said that it was called formerly Saint-Martin-of-Plans in reasons of its many plans of vines).
In 1867, the common one was separate into two: Saint-Martin-the-plain and Saint-Joseph.
The success of the Marrel family supported the development of the village and it was thus one of the electrified first of the the Loire (1898).
The Marrel family bought the castle of Ronze, made build the castle of Plantier and transform the building of Pre Bayard, by adding two side wings to it, to make of it a castle which to date shelters the town hall and the Post office.

Public transport
Since October 2006 (cut-over date of the second line of tram in Saint-Etienne), the commune is served by a regular line. Line 79 (exploited by Blumat and Chazot for the account of Saint-Etienne Metropolis) makes it possible to connect Saint Martin's day to Bank-of-Gier in less than 15 minutes, and that of 6:10 to 20:30 with 9 outward journeys and 7 returns.The principal stops on the communes are Catonnière, Dureantière, the Apricot trees, Ronze, Patuel and Bourg.
Places and monuments
- the Tower of Saint Martin : set up on Pre Bayard by Jean Marie Marrel and his Henri son in 1905, it measures 20 meters.

Zoological gardens : opened the July 23rd 1972, it counts 350 animals with more than 60 different species. The zoo of Saint Martin the Plain studies especially the cat-like ones and the animals like the monkeys, the chimpanzees and the gorillas whose celebrates it Plato gorilla. It is one of the rare French zoo to have succeeded in having births of gorilla in captivity.

Vestiges of the Roman aqueduct of Gier : vestiges of the Aqueduc of Gier are visible in Saint Martin the Plain in particular with the conservatory orchard.

Ronze : it is about the one of the castles Marrel present on the commune, he is currently vacant and degrades himself. Many renovation projects in particular the creation of an old people's home were proposed but all were refused.
