Saint-Martin-of-the-Mile is a common French, located in the department of the Calvados and the area Basse-Normandie.
Its inhabitants is called the Leucamartinois and the Leucamartinoises .
It should be noted that Saint-Martin-of-the-Mile incorporated the old communes of Saint-Hippolyte-of-Meadows and Saint-Hippolyte-of-End-of-Meadows .
It is a pretty small village which extends to the South from Lisieux, the sub-prefecture of the Apple-brandy, in the valley of the Touques. The name of the village comes from the distance which separates it from Lisieux. Indeed, Saint Martin of the Mile is located at four kilometers of the capital of the Pays of Trough, that is to say one mile. The life of the village, which in the past was organized a little more in the south, close to the modest church (first half of the 11th century), of the old post office (which was then the school and the town hall), and of the old laundry, moved progressively towards North, approaching Lisieux. The life is organized today around named well Rue the Commercial, which amongst other things counts the town hall, the school (maternal and primary), the post office, bakery, pharmacy, the hairdresser, the pizzeria and the grocer. Last witness of the displacement of the center of the village the transfer of the memorial of the intersection enters the road leading to Livarot and the road (the oldest way) driving with Fervaques, towards the small place, just with the entry of the school.
Holy Martin of the Mile account two manors which one can observe since the main roads which lead to Lisieux and since the Saint-Hippolyte way. The first and smaller, in the south, built at the 18th century, is typical manors of the Pays of Trough with its wood, its stones limestones, its bricks and its tiles. A little further, is held the superb manor of Saint-Hippolyte, high around 1500. The principal residence dominates the farm buildings like the dovecote or the press.
Recently the village set up a circuit of walk which makes it possible to discover the village and its history (sand pits, the spinning mill-laundry, manors, etc).
