Saint-Martin-of-Belleville is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Saint Martin's day occupies the major part of the Vallée of Belleville, located at the south of Moûtiers. It includes/understands many wild small valleys and protected natural spaces which shelter a diversified fauna and a flora.

The valley includes/understands 22 hamlets and villages. Its surface extends on 162,91 km2 and constitutes the common 30éme metropolitan France of share its extent.

Access : Since the principal junction of Moûtiers, to follow the panels (first exit).

History

The valley of Bellevilles was folded up a long time on itself, the populations lived of breeding and the exploitation of the Alpage S and the forests. It was of always, a starting point of the Rural migration.

The electricity arrived in the Années 1950, and as of the Années 1960, construction Ex nihilo of the ski stations of the Ménuires and Val Thorens starts. The installation of the chief town Saint-Martin-of-Belleville itself started only in 1983 with the will to preserve its authenticity with the non-proliferation of the ski lifts and the respect of the traditional mountain frame: construction in tightened groups, roofs in Roofing stone or dark gray, walls in coating of pink color typical (the roasted ).

Places and monuments

Disseminated on the 22 hamlets and villages of the valley, one finds many elements of patrimonial architectures there: vaults, churches, baker's ovens, basins and mills. The commune is a stage on the “Ways of the baroque”.
  • the Sanctuary of Our-Lady-of-the-life, is a building isolated on a rocky outcrop, in the middle of high the Vallée of Doron-of-Belleville (territory of the Menuires). It is the sanctuary more venerated Vallée of Tarentaise. Its pilgrimage proceeds each August 15th. It is a construction in the shape of Greek cross with coupoule central and radiating chapels. To see: the luxuriant interior decoration, splendid example of the Savoyard Baroque art, with its gilded retables and its stalls out of wooden of the 18th century.

  • the mill of Burdin is a restored water mill and a position to grind the grains.
  • the parish church was rebuilt and increased at the 17th century. To see, the Retable of its high altar carved by an artist of Valsesia showing Holy Martin dividing its coat.

Tourism

The commune shelters two of principal the French ski stations, Ménuires and Val Thorens. The ski lift which leave there allow also the direct connection with the station of Méribel. The village of Saint Martin's day itself constitutes a sub-station located at the extreme north of the field of Ménuires. It contrasts by its authenticity with modern constructions of the great stations of the commune. The historical heart of the commune is a Savoyard village which kept its traditional character, with its narrow lanes and its made houses of stones, wood and roofing stones.

It is also, in summer, the starting point of many hiking and VTT: the “perron of Encumber” (splendid sight on the Mont Blanc) and the “balcony of Belleville” with its many country cottages of mountain pasture.
