Saint-March-of-cost

Saint-March-of-Cost is a common French, located in the department of the Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire.

Its name of Latin origin comes from " Sanctus Medardus" (Medard saint, owner of the parish, which by contraction gave holy Mars) and of " Costa" the coast (which became Coutais).
Its name in Gallo/Poitevin is Saent-Mar-of-costt.
Its name into Breton modern is Sant-Marzh-rear-It hoad.

The common belongs to the historical Brittany, in the traditional country of the Pays of Retz and in the historical country of the Nantes Pays. The inhabitants of the commune are called the San Marino and the San Marino .

Geography

The commune of saint-March-of-Cost is located close to the Lac of Large-Place, with a score of kilometers in the South-west of Nantes.

History

The manor of Saint-March is a building of XVesiècle which rises along the river of Held and which made it possible to supervise the river traffic.

At the time of the Wars of the Vendée, Saint Mars of Cost, as all the remainder of the Pays of Retz, took party for the Vendean insurrection. A local small landed proprietor, Lucas of Championnière, owner of the manor of Couetis were combatant in the army catholic and royal and companion of the chief Cart, he was a memorialist of the Vendean insurrection.
