Saint-Mandé is a station of the line 1 of the Métro of Paris; it is located in the commune of Saint-Mandé.

The station

Situation

The station is located which occurred of Paris at Saint-Mandé, between the place of the Leclerc General and the street of the Park.

History and origin of the name

This station was inaugurated the March 24th 1934 by the prolongation in the east of the line Porte Shirt - Door of Vincennes.

It was called initially Tourelle because of the historical presence of turns of advanced defense of the Château of Vincennes, destroyed however since good a long time but whose toponymy survives. The name was changed into Saint-Mandé - Turret as of the April 26th 1937. Currently, it there concomitant use of the denominations long Saint-Mandé - Turret (gradually replaced by the second) and shortened Saint-Mandé in the documents of the RATP since the end of the Years 1990.

Before this station, the current station Picpus (located at Paris on the line 6) bore the name Saint-Mandé , because it is located at a crossroads of the Avenue of Saint-Mandé.
