Saint-Mammès
Saint-Mammès is a common French, located in the department of Seine-et-Marne and the area Île-de-France.

Located at the confluence of the Seine and Loing, the commune is served by a station ('' Saint-Mammès '') on the line Paris - Montereau ().

History
In 1719 the Duc of Orleans decides opening of the Canal of Loing which will be brought into service in 1726 ensuring a rapid and lucrative economic development for the city which becomes a turntable of the river transport between the Seine and Burgundy.

Economy
The town of Saint-Mammès is one of the most important places, with Conflans-Holy-Honorine, of gathering on the Seine of barges of transport and dwelling.The development of the Batellerie, which dates from the middle of the 18th century with the opening of the Canal of Loing, generated during more than two centuries an essential activity for the city.
The progressive development of the convoys with pushers decreased the importance of motorized with the Gabarit Freycinet. In spite of the increase in the traffic, the number of these motorized, which ensured the activity of Saint-Mammès, did not cease dropping.
The weak gauge of the channel of Loing, and the insufficient efforts made by VNF with the profit of river tourism on this axis, also contribute to the drops in number of visits of the port.
The city, faithful to its tradition batelière, obtained however with a river port and a nautical halt perfectly equipped on the Seine to receive units of all sizes.
The gardens boatmen
Characteristic of Saint-Mammès, a network of gardens boatmen extends behind the frontage on quay. Narrow alleys, almost invisible between the houses, serve a multitude of pieces used originally by the boatmen to supplement their thin incomes.Accustomed to the exiguous space of their cabins, they cultivated, for or the low water level layoffs of the channels, of the miniature enclosures hardly exceeding the 50m2.
