Saint-Maixent-the School (in Poitevin-saintongeais Feels Maessant ) is a Commune Frenchwoman located in the department of the Two-Sevres and the area Poitou-Charentes.
Its inhabitants are called Saint-Maixentais.
Geography
History
The city develops around the monastery founded in 459 by the Moine oratorien Agapit, joined in 480 by Adjutor which took the name of Maixent then. The city bore initially the name of Saint-Saturnin and thrived at the Life and 7th centuries.
In September 1346, the count de Derby fails in its attack to take the city (Guerre One hundred Year old).

- Saint-Maixent is since 1963 the seat of the National school of the warrant officers of active, which trains all the warrant officers of the Army French.
- Museum of the warrant officer, with the Commercial district, arranged on the site of the castle of Saint-Maixent. The origin of this establishment goes back to the year 1926. The Michelin general then founds the museum of the memory to recall the military past of Saint-Maixent and that of other schools of formation.

the abbey built in 940 sheltered the Relique S of saint Maixent and holy Leger and was destroyed by a Earthquake. Rebuilt at XIe and 12th centuries (Romance church), it was again destroyed by the calvinist S in September 1568, and was rebuilt (Abbatiale) on its bases Romance S in a very beautiful Gothic Style.
