Saint-Lazare (Quebec)

Saint-Lazare is a Ville in the regional Municipalité of county of Vaudreuil-Soulanges to the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Montérégie. It is named in the honor of the ressuscity Lazare.

History

It is with the XVIII {{E}} century, whereas the territory of Saint-Lazare formed integral part of the seigniory of Vaudreuil, that the first inhabitants of French origin were established. Those were mainly farmers; in order to pay the ground on which they lived, they collected oats, rye, buckwheat, corn, potatos, pea, broad beans, tomatos or hay, which they gave to the lord.

The December 29th 1875, the statute of municipality is granted to the territory of Saint-Lazare; in 1876, this one takes the name of Municipal Corporation of the Parish of St-Lazare and, of the blow, the system seigneurial is abandoned.

In 1993, the first public library opens its doors. It will be replaced ten years later, the March 4th 2003, by a new building. The December 29th 2001, the municipality obtains officially the statute of " Ville".

In 2000, the city has celebrates its 125e birthday.
