Saint-Lary-Soulan

Saint-Lary-Soulan (occitan: Sent Lari E Sola ) is a common department of the Hautes-Pyrénées, in the area the Midday-Pyrenees, in France.

Geography

Ski station to see (Ski station of Saint-Lary) and Thermal spa of the the Pyrenees in the Valley of Aure on the Neste in Bigorre, to 20 km of the border with the Spain, accessible by the Tunnel Aragnouet-Bielsa.

The territory of Saint-Lary-Soulan is made of two distinct parts, separated from approximately a kilometer by the commune of Vignec: in the East, the old commune of Saint-Lary, and with the West, the old commune of Soulan. The latter extends on ten kilometers, across the Lac of Oule, until the Crête of Espade. The Enclave of Soulan in addition has a small outgrowth in the South (locality of the Hut) which cuts Vignec in two parts. These two parts result from fusion of the two old communes on January 1st, 1964.

History

On the path of Saint-Jacob de Compostelle, on the Way of Piedmont, by the collar of Rioumajou to join Saragossa and to request the Virgin of the Pillar, (Virgen del Pilar).

Saint-Lary-Soulan results from the fusion of the communes of Saint-Lary and Soulan in 1963, fusion carried out to allow the extension of the ski station, the grounds skiables pertaining to Soulan.
