History
Well before the Roman conquest, an important route uniting Bourges with Bordeaux crossed Vienna close to the village of Noblat (which would come from nobiliacum, “place of noble”). A Château of the bishop S of Limoges controlled this Route, which at the 12th century, became a big step of the “Voie limousine” of the road towards Compostelle.Léonard according to the tradition and the imaginary account of his life writes at the 11th century, would have been born in a family from officers from the court from the king Clovis, at the end of the 5th century. He would have had like godfather, this king of the Francs and for the bishop of Rheims, Saint Remi. Very early, it obtained the privilege to visit the prisoners and to make them release. Its fame then grows, one offered high loads to him which he refused, preferring to leave the court to become disciple of the Christ. There went to Micy in the Orléanais and remained some time with his brother Liphar and holy Maximin. Then, carrying on its way towards the south, it stopped to install its hermitage, not far from Limoges and of the tomb of Martial saint, in the Forêt of Pauvain, in edge of Vienna. During a stay of the king of Aquitanian come to drive out in this place, the queen, arrival at the end of her pregnancy, could not put at the world his/her child. Saint Léonard interceded in his favor near God and obtained the delivery of the mother and the safe life of the child. The king, by recognition, offered many present to him that he refused. He accepted only the territory of the forest that its ass could delimit in 24 hours. He built an oratorical there in the honor of the Virgin Mary and Remi saint. Little by little from many people came to see it and of the prisoners, delivered by his intercession, asked him asylum. Saint Léonard would have died one November 6th and buried in the Chapelle which it had founded. He is called upon for the delivery of the prisoners and against the sterility of the women.
The worship of Saint Léonard is spread quickly in all Christendom: its tomb becomes a place of Pèlerinage or affluent the faithful ones. Many famous characters requested on the tomb of the hermit:

Now let us evoke the collections Ferroviaire S which extend on nearly 1000 m ² including 550 m ² in two rooms arranged in an old manufacture of shoes created with the arrival of the railroad in Saintt-Léonard in 1881. All is to reconstitute there the universes of the railroad. Through a ludic and teaching course, the visitor-traveller discovers the objects put in scene to explain to him the life on train his that it emprunute symbolically as of his entry in HistoRail. The step is progressive. First of all the traveller discovers the world of the Gare, then that of traction (simulators of control and pantograph focntionnel with real overhead line); He passes then to the knowledge of indication, of the regulation. In the passing, two miniature networks will explain the role of the stations, interfaces between the world of the railroad and the social and economic world to him that the railroad will feed and interfere. Under this room, symbolizing the course in the train, it is the true history of the railroad which will appear to him with the " Traversothèque" , the second of importance presented to the public after that with the Quoted of the Train in Mulhouse. It should be specified that this collection " Traversothèque" was especially prepared and given by Workshop the SNCF specialized in the way installed to Bretenoux in the Lot. In this respect, it is advisable to announce the considerable importance of the assistance of the SNCF to HistoRail, since its creation, support which does not weaken. It is also in this room which laid out a wide-area network of 14m on 5m on a 1/43,5e scale which in particular makes it possible to see well the operation of a pantograph in situation of movement.
In outsides, a way with the normal spacing was posed in the rules of Article It supports two driving machines: a line inspection car and a very strange and rare locomotor. The first built by Gaston Moyse between 1922 & 1929, said the " animal with cornes". Along a high quay various materials are laid out of indication and equipment of the way. A crane with water and a functional clock of quay supplement the collection. Various large materials await their turn to be presented to the public. A network of Garden which runs in a rubble with small a Rivière and its Lac, on a 22,5e scale, brings its ludic and pastoral note.
Exposures Thématique S supplement the knowledge brought to the traveller. Currently an excellent exposure on the topic of the electrification of the trains is proposed, since the construction of stoppings by the SNCF until convey energy for the Locomotive.
Other topics are envisaged of which one on the Trans-Siberian one.

Lastly, let us not hesitate to say and write that HistoRail was born from the will of voluntary amateurs of the railroad, true Patrimoine of the humanity which would deserve a study of classification by UNESCO. These voluntary knew to create the origins of a true museum devoted to the railroad of yesterday, today and tomorrow. They knew to mobilize the private resources necessary because they did not profit from government aid for the required investments. An Support group and of Sponsorship of companies, for much supplier of the SNCF, brought more than their mite: a genuine basket. Let us quote them: The SNCF well-sure, LEGRAND, CGE-DISTRIBUTION, PINAULT, GAUTHIER PAINTINGS, SOMACO - gear lifting, OXYGENATES LIQUID, RHÔNE-POULENC, CONCRETE BUILDING SITES CHARENTES the LIMOUSIN, Crédit Mutuel & Crédit Lyonnais, and bein of other craftsmen in particular… All the sharpest thanks go to its generous benefactors.
