Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert

Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert was born from the fusion of the Saint-Just-on-Loire and the Saint-Rambert-on-Loire in 1973. These two cities have a historically rich past.

Geography

Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert is the first commune located downstream from the Barrage of Grangent on the the Loire.

History

The Saint-Just-on-Loire

the Saint-Just-on-Loire is a town of industry. Its history is related to that of the Navigation river-shipping, the Dyeing-dyeing, the Verrerie and the Métallurgie. Installed on banks of the Loire, St-Just was, until the middle of the 19th century, the starting point of rambertes who conveyed, Charbon and other goods sometimes until Nantes.

The Saint-Rambert-on-Loire

Gallo-Roman village in the beginning, the Saint-Rambert-on-Loire, then named Occiacum, was given to the Abbey of Island-Bores, whose monks founded a Prieuré and renamed the place in Saint-Andre-of-Olmes.

In 1078, when the relics of Saint Rambert were brought, the village took its final name, and was then an important place of pilgrimage.

Built on a hillock dominating the plain and the river, St-Rambert was, with the Middle Ages, surrounded by two enclosing walls of which there remain some elements today.

Since fusion

Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert was created by decree of the September 19th 1972, appear with the Official journal on November 1st 1972 and having taken effect at January 1st 1973. It gathered, by total fusion, the old communes of the Saint-Just-on-Loire and the Saint-Rambert-on-Loire, both located in the canton of Saint-Rambert consequently become occasion canton of Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert . Code INSEE allotted to the new commune is that of the old commune of the Saint-Rambert-on-Loire: 42279.
