History

Saint Julien Molin Molette probably owes its name made up with the memory of a Roman Soldat named Julien, with the presence of many Moulin S which formerly drew the energy of the river of the Ternay, like with the existence of the Molette S, of small grinding stones being used for grinding of the knives. The original name of this old Roman village would have thus been “Moledane” or “Moletane”, to which would have follows added the name of patron saint, then the reference to its many Moulin S. the name of its inhabitants, if different from the name of the village, would come him from a nickname in relation to its old mine S of Plomb and money (from where them “piraillons”, which work the stone).

The recent history of Saint Julien Molin Molette is closely related to the rise of weaving on natural Soie which marked second half of the XIXè century. This industry developed on all the area of the Pilat, in relation to the Canuts Lyonnais. About fifteen factories were thus set up on banks Ternay. Since, several factories were restored in dwellings, workshops for artists and craftsmen, from France and from abroad.
