Saint-Joseph island

The island Saint Joseph is one of the islands of the Hello on the coast of the Guyana. It depends on the commune of Cayenne.

It was selected for the period of the Bagne, like place of reclusion, asylum the insane ones and cemetery of the supervisors. Important ruins remain there, invaded by the vegetation, which gives to the place a very particular environment. The island Saint Jospeh shelters the only beach of the islands of the Hello on the Northern coast. A post office of the Foreign legion is established there.

No direct connection exists since Kourou, but the maritime company which ensures the connection between Kourou and the island Royale can transport passengers by rubber rubber boat there.
