History

Saint-Jory was under the domination of very powerful families. Not a character of the court did not come in Languedoc without stopping in his splendid Château. In 1603, Henri IV set up the Châtellenie in baronnie. Such a past was to remain present in the memory of the inhabitants of Saint-Jory.

Before 1222, Saint-Jory was under the domination of the Counts de Toulouse. Sad memory for Saint-Jory with the XIIe century, their vassal, true brigands, plundered the church.

XIIIe century, one could retain the standpoint of Hugues, Sénéchal of the Agenais, for the Albigensian: it defended Toulouse and Warp end-with Agenais, under the control of the count de Lancastre, devastated Saint-Jory while going to Toulouse.

The XVe century saw the beginning of a series of fights and lawsuit between the village and the family of Garrigia of Villeneuve. the villagers revolted against Jean de Garrigia in XVe century, and it is only with the XIXe century that the lawsuits will cease.

Under the domination of the Of Faur, a splendid castle Renaissance was built. In 1569, the wars of religion ruined it, him and the church.

Then came the Révolution with its excesses, and the XIXe century with its transformations, its plans of installations. As it turns these pages, the reader will see the city being metamorphosed and taking shape such as it is today.
