Saint-Jean-of-the-moor
Saint-Jean-of-the-Moor is a municipality in the regional Municipalité of county of the Témiscouata to the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Low-Saint-Laurent.
Between 1914 and 1918, a group of students carry out the land surveying of part of the canton of Robinson. With the beginning of the year 1920, some squatters néo-brunswickois settles at this place, quickly followed by families of Holy-Rose-of-Thawed out (Dégelis), which occupy a strip of land along the Baker brook, then by people of Montreal, of Quebec, of Beauce, Bellechasse. In 1923, the mission of Saint-Maur is instituted, name which points out the proximity of the parish of Saint-Benoit-of-Packington, holy Benoît de Nursie having been the Master of Maur saint (towards 512-584).
As from 1932, the noun of the mission is modified in Saint-Jean-of-the-Moor, because of canonization, in 1930, of the Norman martyr Jean of the Moor which lived of approximately 1620 to 1646. Set up canonically in 1964, the parish will see its name selected to identify the municipality created the following year.
The population jeannoise is composed mainly of farmers, of workers of industry and workmen of building sites.

The municipality shelters a small covered bridge, the Romain-Charon bridge, protected since 2006 as historic building city by the municipality. Projects of development of this bridge are regularly proposed.
The Romain-Charon bridge, built in 1940, is a bridge covered out of wood, of elaborate Town type. The financial asset of the Romain-Charon bridge lies in its scarcity: it is the last covered bridge of Témiscouata. The bridges of the Town type are composed of farms made of intersected beams forming a broad lattice whose parts are connected the ones to the others by hard pegs. In the alternative of worked out the Town type, the pegs are replaced by nails and dimensions of the beams are reduced. Moreover, the structure is reinforced thanks to the addition of vertical posts. The Romain-Charon bridge is designed according to this alternative. This bridge, of an exceptional width (31,85 meters), is in an excellent state of conservation.
The financial asset of the Romain-Charon bridge also lies in its commemorative interest. Indeed, this bridge was named thus in the honor of Romain Charon (1899-1988), one of the pioneers of Saint-Jean-of-the-Moor. Following the destruction of the old bridge in 1933, Romain Charon ensured the crossing of the river in boat during 42 days and thereafter built his hands the current bridge, in 1940.
