Saint-Jean-of-the-lane

Saint-Jean-of-the-Lane is a commune of the area Center, in the Département of Loiret, on Right Bank of the the Loire in the perimeter registered with the world heritage of UNESCO.

The inhabitants are called stéoruellans .

Geography

Fifth city of the department for its population, its territory of 606 hectares is bordering on Saran, Ingré, Vault-Saint-Mesmin and Orleans, of which it constitutes to it western outskirts of the city. The Loire constitutes the southern border with Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin.

Named Athos at the time Celtic, it took the name of Jean Saint after the construction of the first church. Of the Lane was added there because one reached the church by a lane.

  • Church Saint-Jean-Baptist, built between 1905 and 1906 and inaugurated on October 28th 1906. It contains an organ dating from the middle of the XIXe century and built by Charles Beaurain.

Jacques Chirac returned visit as a president of the republic to the college Maréchal Leclec de Hauteclocque on February 23rd 1999.

Since 2002, the town of Saint-Jean-of-the-Lane organizes ceremonies of PACS in town hall. This ceremony is composed of the reading of a short speech, confirmation of the engagement of PACS and reading of the act. It gives place to the handing-over of a certificate of celebration but does not replace the convention signed with the Magistrates' court.
