Saint-Jean-of-Sling is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center.

Its inhabitants is called abraysien () S .

Geography

The city is located at the east in contact with Orleans on northern bank of the the Loire. By its population (census of 1999), it is the fourth in importance of the agglomeration orléanaise and Loiret. The Canal of Orleans crosses the commune while skirting the the Loire. Two old ports marines remain: that of the borough and that of Saint-Wolf.

The city is located at the point more Septentrional of the the Loire.

Wine in the past, then market-gardening, its economy is from now on primarily tertiary.

History

The city is located on an old Roman way. Holy Wolf, bishop of Direction, was born there in 573. An abbey is created there to shelter the remainders of them.

The May 4th 1429, Jeanne d' Arc takes by to storm the latter, thus opening the way for the release of Orleans.

Cosmetic industries with in particular Christian Dior (installed since 1973, with nearly 1350 paid in 2005).

  • Foundry of bells Bowlful , installed since 1838, which melted some Cloche S prestigious (Ottawa, basilica of Yamoussoukro…), and which currently shelters a campanological museum since 1992.
  • Wind metal in the court of the foundry.
  • Church Saint-Jean-Baptist , built at the 12th century, of Romance style outside and Gothic inside.
  • Castle of Coal-scuttle , built between 1895 and 1900 for a perfumer and repurchased by the town hall: large park and place of occasional exposures.

  • Charles Auguste d' Allonville de Louville

  • Jacques d' Allonville: Voltaire writes that the knight of Louville, was distinguished among crowd from those which made honor at the century of Louis XIV .
  • Louis Gallouédec, geographer and author of many school handbooks (born in Morlaix in 1864, deceased with Saint-Jean-of-Sling in 1937) was mayor of the Town of 1912 to 1937, general adviser of the canton of Orleans-Is of 1907 to 1937, then president of the general advice of Loiret of 1933 to 1936.
  • Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, sculptor, born with Saint-Jean-of-Sling in 1891, died in the combat in 1915.
  • Norbert Dufourcq, organist and musicologist, born with Saint-Jean-of-Sling in 1904, deceased in 1990.
