Saint-Jean-of-Muzols

Saint-Jean-with-Muzols is a common French, located in the department of the Ardèche and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Romano-traditional church 19th of style: baptistry. Old church of the 1st southernmost Romanesque art (Historic building).

Sport

St Jean de Muzols is also and especially famous for his club of tennis shoe, the Sporting Dash Muzolais, club headlight of the committee drôme-Ardeche.

In 1936,13 young people of St Jean de Muzols gathered and created the Sporting Dash Muzolais among which Gaston Monneron, No5el Passas, Jean Bruyère, André Sainsorny, Emile Lévèque, Marcel Bouchet, Emile Crouzet and some others… The village then did not have sporting clubs, of well defined and healthy distractions for the young people. The 1st idea was to play football but for lack of rather large ground and players, the idea was quickly abandoned. 2nd was to play tennis shoe, sport rather popular in the army at that time. A ground pertaining to the Bon family, exploited by Mr. Rama, located opposite the cure was in waste land. This ground, too small for football, would be, on the other hand sufficient to play tennis shoe. A request for availability to the farmer and an favorable opinion, the creation of an office became essential then. Mr. Jean Minodier then became the first president of the Sporting Dash Muzolais. Its first responsibility was to elect the carpenter and the marshal ferrand village in order to set up the panels necessary. Two rafters, some boards cut to lawful dimensions, the marshal ferrand will prepare and fix the circles. Then, after the acquisition of a first balloon, the first dribbles could resounded on the ground muzolais.

The secretary of the time, Mr. Jean Heather, will become acquainted with old a annonéen, Guigon, come to work in Tournon, which will be the first trainer known club. Guigon will contact the players of Annonay then, and the first match of the ESM will proceed on January 18th, 1937. The hen is made of Annonay, St Vallier and Lamastre. The first times were complicated with several heavy defeats (60 points against Annonay, 50 against St Vallier) but the young people muzolais were not discouraged and continued their heavy training. It is at the time of the third match, in February 1937, vis-a-vis Lamastre, that the ESM gains the first victory of its young history.

At the time of the season 1937-1938, the ESM will pack new players, and especially of the arrival of Bocquel, player of Crest, affected to the APM of Tournon, which will come to reinforce the team and consequently occasion to involve it. Two teams will turn very well and will have excellent results.

In 1939, German approaches and No5el Passas replaces Jean Minodier with the presidency because this last left to the war where it will be made prisoner. In 1940, No5el Passas takes the capitanat in spite of difficult times, the tennis shoe continues with St Jean. First title in 1942 with that of Champion of the Alps thanks to an address insolente of Pierre Sozet, who does not have whereas 17 years. St Jean trimpohe then 31 to 29 vis-a-vis Bourgoin Jallieu. Second exploit in 1943 when the team (playing in Honor) goes up in excellence.

November 19th, 1944 is played St Jean the 1st international match opposing the team of the ESM to that of the United States, the latter goes up the Rhone with the continuation of the German troups. A match epic summarized in some figures: 1000 spectators, a defeat 46 to 19 for the ESM… and 200 liters of wine during the 3rd half-time.

Later, the war of Algeria is the rock bottom of the ESM which goes to small steps but which does not close the doors. The years pass, the president captain of the ESM No5el Passas became the mayor of the village. Jean Sozet becomes president of the club then. In 1972, the commune obtains the authorization to build its gymnasium and asks president Jean Sozet to set up a female section. Engagement held on the two tables: the market of the sports is inaugurated in 1973 and the female team is born.
