Saint-Jean-of-God

Saint-Jean-of-God is a municipality belonging to the regional Municipalité of county of the Basques, with the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Low-Saint-Laurent at approximately 25 km at the south-east of Three-Spray.

Saint-Jean-of-God was established with the crossroads of the rivers of the Three Spray and Boisbouscache. The colonization of the place begins about 1850 with creation from the Bégon colony, to some 8 km of the current locality, populated colonists coming from Three-Spray. Since the people shared all to have to them, the row is seen soon decreeing the nickname of the Company, preserved to identify a hamlet. A few years later, in 1865, one creates the municipality of the canton of Bégon, thus named in the honor of Michel Bégon of Picardière (1667-1747), ninth intendant of News-France of 1710 to 1726.

Thereafter the municipality of Bégon will see its noun and its amended in 1947, to receive the same denomination as the parish. this name wants to be a celebration of the virtues of Saint Jean of God (1495-1550), founder of the Hospitallers and owner of the patients and hospitals.
