Saint-Jean-of-Béthune

Saint-Jean-with-Béthune is a catholic establishment of Enseignement located at Versailles in Yvelines, created by the fathers Eudistes. It accommodates 2800 pupils of the elementary school to the college. It is famous for its results with the baccalaureat: only one not-receipt in 2005 and 100% of receipts in 2006 like in 2007.

Until 1992, Saint-Jean-of-Béthune accommodated only boys. After fusion with the school of Hulst, school of young girls, the establishment took the name of Saint-Jean-Hulst , but old name remains usually used.

Localization

It is located 26 rue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny at Versailles. This address relates to only the college and the college, as well as the top executives. The nursery schools and primary educations are street of Rémilly.

The college today

It for several years has been directed by Marie-Helene Delouis. The Eudiste S, which founded the college and constituted in the beginning it quasi totality of the teaching body, are today present there only in the capacity as chaplains. The congregation of Eudistes continues however to exert the supervision on the establishment, jointly with the évêché of Versailles.

Saint-Jean-Hulst teaching is characterized by a will of excellence and a certain elitism (the number of classes passes from twelve in third to nine into final, the missing classes corresponding to the reorientated pupils). Sometimes criticized for the pressure which it generates on the pupils, this system generally makes it possible however to the pupils of Midsummer's Day to continue high level studies. Thus, eight pupils of Jean Saint joined prestigious the prépa Holy-Genevieve in 2006.

In addition, the direction of the college wishes to create a positive climate around the studies, and seeks to allow the blooming of the pupil in his school environment. This is why various activities are proposed to the pupils: sport, music, theater, voyages abroad, etc One can make there several options like two living languages, or of Latin and the Greek.

As in the other Catholic schools under contract, the parents of pupils are represented by only one association, the Call. The Call of Saint-Jean-Hulst, currently chaired by Mrs. Bénédicte de Dinechin, is affiliated with the UNAPEL (National union of the Call). The representatives of parents of pupil play in catholic teaching a part much more important than in public education. Catholic teaching indeed developed very early the concept of " community éducative" , where the role of the parents of pupils is not limited to additional activities of animation, but can take part much more narrowly in the life even of the establishment, including in management or even the discipline.
