Saint-Jacques-of-the-Moor

Saint-Jacques-of-the-Moor is a common French, located in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine and the area Brittany. In Breton the name of the commune is Sant-Jakez-Al-Lann . Saint-Jacques-of-the-moor is a commune bordering on Rennes and belonged to the agglomeration of Rennes (4th city of the agglomeration by its population). Its inhabitants are called the Jacquolandins .

Geography

The commune is formed by three principal districts:

the district of the white Pigeon , located inside the by-pass, in the continuity of the districts of the south of Rennes. It was there is the downtown area of Saint-Jacob little, one found there the town hall and the majority of the play activities (schools, dance, music). This district counts 3500 inhabitants, but will see believing its population from here 2008-2010 by the project of Courrouze/Pilate.

the second district Saint-Jacob airport is as its name indicates it close to the Aéroport to Rennes - Saint-Jacob but also to the exhibition site of Rennes. Located at the south of the city, it is composed mainly of houses and small collectives. One also finds there the arts center of the Surface Free. It is the old borough of St Jacques, partly shaven in the middle of the 20th century for the lengthening of the track of the airport. This district counts 2000 inhabitants.

the third district the center Town is recent. It is composed of the zone of Morinais, of the Slopes of Maltière and the allotment of Chevrolais. The purpose of it is between the two other districts and is to join together them, while becoming the new downtown area of Saint-Jacob. This district counts currently more than 3000 inhabitants. One finds there the Media library Lucien Herr, the Ear Condorcet (integrated public equipment which includes/understands on 9000 m2 a whole of structures around animation, the culture and community life) and the Gymnasia Alice Millat.

Demography

Places and monuments

With the locality Maltière, rises a monument of the memory in memory of Fusillés of Maltière. This place is known like place of execution of the Hostages civil and resistant makes captive by the German Occupant between 1940 and 1944. Every December 30th the " are commemorated; 25 shot of Maltière" shot in 1942, More information here
