Saint-Illide

Saint-Illide is a common French, located in the department of the Cantal and the area Auvergne.

Its inhabitants is called Saint-Illidois or Miraliers.

Geography

The commune is located at about thirty kilometers of Aurillac. To join the village on the basis of Aurillac, to take the direction of Mauriac, to enter the village of Saint-Cernin and to continue the road on approximately 10 km.

History

The name of Saint-Illide comes from Saint Hilaire, which then transformed into Saint-Alyre then Saint-Illide .

After the Legal settlement of 1801, several French bishops whose bishop of Rodez, Mgr Seigneley Colbert, made a schism with papacy. The Pope had enjoint to them to leave their station, to place there bishops more in phase with the mode of Napoleon Bonaparte. Several parishes of the Aveyron and the Cantal, whose Saint-Illide, adhered to this schism that one called the Petite Church. Extract of the statistical Dictionary of the department of the Cantal , written in 1824 by Déribier of Châtelet, in connection with Saint-Illide:

HOLY ILLIDE or Holy Alyre, commune of the canton of Cernin Saint, has 31 villages or hamlets, 317 houses and 1825 inhabitants; it is located in a rather flat, covered country of wood and heathers, and with the confluence of Maronne and small river of Santin Saint. One collects few grains there, except by very frequent burn-beating in this commune. There are orchards and some good meadows. Part of the inhabitants is emigrated in Spain and ease pays some. It is held to with it of the fairs the May 1st, June 6th and October 25th, good for the sheep.
One notices the castles of Bontat at the old house of Veilhan, and that of Bellestat.
Jean de Bellestat and of Croset lived in 1390. The name of Albars was carried very a long time by the lords of Barriac. In 1282, Jean d' Albars was lord of Saint Cirgues de Malbert with 10kil. (2l.) O of Cernin Saint and with 19 kil. (4 1/4 L) NO of Aurillac

Demography

In 2006, several grounds are to be sold and the arrival of new inhabitants is encouraged. Saint-Illide is equipped with a post office and trade, bars and restaurants, which makes it rather gravitational in the area.

  • In the church of the borough, of the objects are classified historic buildings, among which two bronze bells of the 16th century, and the stalls out of wooden carved, called mercies, dating from the 15th century. The mercies come from the chapter of Saint-Chamant, and represent fantastic beings (sirens…) and of the scenes of the daily life.
