Saint-Héand

Saint-Héand is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Dominate the metropolis of Saint-Etienne to which it is connected by a pleasant tourist road of 12 km, as well as the plain of Drill.

History

  • Village as of the 10th century.

The castle of Saint-Héand or Sanctus Engendus had been built at the origin at the border between the possessions of the archbishop of Lyon and those of the count of Drill. But it is impossible to say which was the initiator. Since the end of the the Middle Ages its notoriety and its interest were such as at the 15th century Guillaume Ravel crunched the " Château" in its armorial, considering it worthy to appear among the high places of the area. There remain still some vestiges of this medieval habitat. The village knew then a growing expansion to which still certain constructions testify.

  • It is at the 18th century especially that the arms manufacture developed which was at the origin of an expansion which lasted until the 19th century.

  • the common one yielded with Chevrières, and Fontanès of the hamlets to give rise to the commune of Gimond.
  • the Establishments of Optics Thalli-Angénieux ensure the fame of the village beyond the national borders (Founded by Pierre Angénieux in 1935).
  • In 1969, on July 21st, they are the first steps of the man on the Moon the cameras of the American astronauts at the time of this mission " Apollo" were equipped by " zooms" products and assembled by the Establishments of Pierre Angénieux (1907 - 1998).

Public transport

The city is served by network STAS by line 110. Exploited by the SRT for the account of St Etienne Metropolis, it connects St Héand to the Terrace in 20 minutes. The line is accessible to all, with usual tariff STAS.

Line 110 counts 18 daily outward journeys and 19 returns for a time amplitude of 6:40 to 19:30.
