Biography

Saint-Granier was born with Paris in 1890 in a family from Gascon aristocrats including one great number is journalist and deputy. Its infancy occurs within a middle-class framework which puts it at the shelter of the need but the premature death of his/her father in 1897 obliges it to leave with his/her mother this privileged medium, they give up both the house cossue which they occupied at the Bois de Boulogne to go to settle street of Liege to Paris. Saint-Granier makes his studies with the Condorcet College then or it meets Jean Cocteau and Stavisky. In 1907 it is his/her mother who dies what obliges it to stop its studies, it becomes then thanks to the assistance of her family, stockbroker. During this period he attends the Montmartrean medium assiduously, he often will listen to Yvette Guilbert, Fragson or Damia. Of the frequentation of the Montmartrean cabarets it will forge a culture satirist which will enable him to write in the Hullabaloo , Indiscreet the , Bravo , or in newspapers such as the Morning (France) and the newspaper , where it writes chronicles on the Parisian artistic life, until the end of its life it will be considered as journalist.

In 1913 it launches out on the scene of the cabaret the Pig Épic to sing texts of its creation, its statute of journalist pushes it to choose topics having milked with the topicality. In 1914 he writes his first review in collaboration with Yves Merall Tais, it is insane for you! that it gives in the theater Little Palace . In 1916 it opens the cabaret the Perch then in 1918 the Iron boiler . Between 1921 and 1928 it settles with the Casino of Paris where it begins with Maurice Chevalier while assembling six reviews there: “In an armchair” (1921), “Paris in the air” (1922), “Into soft” (1923), “One says that” (1924), “Hello Paris” (1926), “Any Paris” (1928). The public will take again some of its refrains such as Love letter , It is young and that does not know popularized by Maurice Chevalier, Yo loves you yo adores you , Marquita and finally Ramona taken again by several interpreters and always also famous nowadays among amateurs of French songs at a point such as it will be associated there all its life against its liking. Parallel to these various activities, it continues to sing and to occur in cabarets like the Cricket , the Mill of the song , the Vault of the Republic , passes of to exclusiveness to the Magpie which sings , it also sings in its own reviews in which Albert Willemetz, RIP or Jacques Charles collaborates, its success is worth a nickname mocker to him the “half-society man” because of his origins and of its crested frequentations, her tempting smile is worth also “Granier monkey to him”.

From 1930 it extends its activities to the cinema and becomes director of Paramount for the France of 1930 to 1932. Then the radio comes where it makes its beginnings in 1930 to become seven years later producing with Radio-City , radio station of the Thirties celebrates, for which it produces with Jacques Canetti the first radio-hook, the minute of the good sense renamed later by the public the minute of Saint-Granier , after the war it continues in the vein of the radio-hooks with One sings in my district (1945) whose code is a song of Francis Blanche, Ploum ploum Tralala . In the Fifties it animates a television program the love of life , whose success renews the gibes against him, one calls it “the marquis” or “Holy Ploum-ploum”, it is at this period which it decides to take of the retreat by preserving only the emission the minute of the good sense to keep the contact with the public.
