Saint-Gouéno

Saint-Gouéno (or Saint-Gouëno) is a common department of the Coast-with Armor, in the area Brittany, in France.

The inhabitants are called the Gouénovais and the Gouénovaises .

Geography

Saint-Gouéno (Sant-Gouenoù into Breton) is located at the foot of the mount " Beautiful Air" , culminating point of the department of the Coast-with Armor (339 meters) in the middle of the " Mené" area of the Armorican Massive . The commune of Saint-Gouéno belongs to the canton of Collinée.

History

Saint-Gouéno comes from Gouéno saint, who would have founded a monastery with Gouesnou (Finistere). Saint Goueznou (in old man-Breton Woednou and Latin S. Godenevus about 1330) is quoted into 884 with the number of the disciples of Paul-Aurélien saint. He east seems he the son of Tudoel and has for holy brother Majan and a holy sister Tudona.

Saint-Gouéno is a dismemberment of the old primitive parish of Plessala. Saint-Gouéno (Saint-Goinou) is quoted like parish since 1279 in a charter of the abbey of Boquen (Anc. év. III, 285). The parish is also quoted in 1282 in another charter where the lord of Bocenit (today Bosny, in Saint-Gilles-of-Carried out) engages of said in the parish to the monks of Boquen, guarantees some of a loan. The abbey of Boquen was seen confirming in 1255 the possession of the village of Saint-Thia.

The territory of the branch of Saint-Gouéno is decreased by that of the branch of Saint-Gilles-of-Carried out when this one is set up by ordinance of January 30th, 1839. The parish of Saint-Gouéno belongs, under the Old Mode, with the diocese of Saint-Brieuc and elects its first municipality at the beginning of 1790. The commune of Saint-Gouéno undergoes several modifications at the 19th century:

  • It increases village of Kerfiac in Plessala (ordinance of January 9th, 1828).

  • It increases villages of Kermené, Philippaie, Chauchy, City-of-milk, the Fences, Kerouet, the Large-Case, Dish-of-Ogniaux, the Case of sand, in the past in Plessala (ordinance of January 9th, 1828).
  • It yields the enclave of Unpleasant and Mautray to Saint-Gilles-of-Carried out (ordinance of January 9th, 1828).
  • It yields to Collinée the villages of Saint-Thia, Hautaye, Launay-Moussu, Viette, Mintes and Bignons (law of May 17th, 1856).

The inhabitants of the commune engage actively in the Chouannerie during the Revolution under control of Legris-Duval de Bosny.

  • the church Saint-Gouéno (1862), work of the architect Alphonse Guépin.

Local activity

The commune was illustrated by its " race of côte" : automobile race organized in the laces of the secondary road 14 between " Hautières" and " tops of Hiver" with the passage of famous the " iron with cheval" , hairpin curve. Recognized on the national and European level of the Championship of the Mountain, the race was born in 1969 until 1985, from 1990 to 1993 then disappeared to reappear recently: the last edition going back to 2006 in regional competition.
