Saint-Germain-the Herm is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne.

Geography

The village is halfway located between Issoire (at the west) and Ambert (in the east), in the middle of the mounts of Livradois, with approximately 1000 meters of altitude.

At the end of the XIXe century, one brings back to the existence of a Manufacture of carding of the Laine, exploited on the initiative it mayor-adviser general-deputy/senator Charles-Claude Barrière.

At the beginning of the XXe century existed a paper manufacture with Cigarette S, employing approximately 80 people.

Many sawmills were open starting from the XVIII° century. None remains at present.
