History
The Abbot Lebeuf, author of the history of the City and the Diocese of Paris wrote in the years 1883/1893, that Saint-Germain-the-Corbeil existed as of the 6th century. In 800, one called it Corboilus or Corboilum which became veteri Corboïlo (“the Corbeil Old man”) when “new” Corbeil ( junius Corboïlum ) was built on the other side of the the Seine. Later, the village took the name of Sanctus Germanus Veteris Corbolu , in reference to holy Germain (494-576), bishop of Paris, which had grounds there. The usual shape of Saint-Germain-the-Corbeil results from the evolutions of Saint-Germain-the-Old-Corbeil , Saint-Germain-the-Old man-Corbeil , and more recently, Saint-Germain-lez-Corbeil .
The first known castle goes back to 1312, and was built by Geoffroy Coquatr ix, middle-class important rich person and of Paris, wine waiter of the Philippe-the-beautiful king . The sudden castle, during the decades, several repairs and transformations until its destruction in 1590. Indeed, during the wars of religion, at the time of the head office of Corbeil, Alexandre Farnèse, duke of Parma, occupies the castle and while withdrawing itself, burns it… It is rebuilt in 1620 by Nicolas Thibeuf, new lord of the Valley-Coquatrix. His/her son and grandsons will preserve it. During the 18th century, it will become property of the family of Brétignières. At the 19th century, the field is bought by Aymé-Stanislas Darblay, industrialist of Corbeil and deputy. In 1846, the new owner builds the current castle, remained in the family until our days.
The church constitutes the patrimonial main wealth of the commune. With the Life century, Holy Germain, bishop of Paris, built a place of worship, now disappeared, dedicated to Saint Vincent, Spanish martyr. At the 12th century, the current church is built, in a transition style fine Romance/Gothic beginning. It takes the name of German Saint - Vincent Saint. Its imposing 60 height meters bell-tower collapses in 1793; in 1835, a modest pinnacle is installed on the pinion of the frontage. The church is entirely restored at the end of the 19th century by the family Darblay. In particular, the frontage, with the top of the gate of the 12th century, decorated statues modelled by Élias Robert and crowned by the current bell-tower, is almost entirely rebuilt.
The whole of the stained glasses of the 13th century of the central apse constitutes the treasure of the church. These stained glasses are classified with the Historic buildings since 1908. The most important stained glass, that of the center, represent the principal episodes of the Passion of Christ; the canopy of left illustrates the Tree of Jessé (genealogy of the Christ), that of right-hand side is relating to the life of German Saint. At the top, the rosette represents the Paschal lamb surrounded by six medallions dedicated to several saints martyrs.
The tomb stones, raised and sealed on the walls of the sides, form a whole of a great historical interest since they relate to old notable or cleaned parish.

recent History :
Until the end of the Sixties, Saint-Germain-the-Corbeil remained a primarily rural village. Deprived of rail link on its territory, the commune was not concerned with the industrial development of its neighbor Corbeil, nor even by the emergence of the private housing estates (standard house Loi Squinter) of the beginning of the XXème century in good number of communes of the Parisian suburbs, and the the Essonne (Athis-Mons, Savigny-sur-Orge, Laugh-Orangis, Quincy-under-Sénart, Brunoy…). The population was stabilized around 600 inhabitants during several decades.
From 1970, under the impulse of the Mayor Stanislas Darblay (elected in 1968), the commune is metamorphosed. Many agricultural surfaces are sold to carry out there private housing estates standardized with American. It is the time of the advent of the car and the private property: The quality of the railway service road is not any more one requirement of urban development insofar as the majority of the hearths have one, even two cars. In addition, the inhabitants seek the presence of big spaces more and more. The cities do not have any more the coast (testify some to the losses spectacular inhabitants between 1968 and 1982 to the communes to Paris, Lyon, Marseilles,… and even of certain suburban towns, in the past urbanized). French aspires from now on to have a house and a garden, far from the nuisances of the city.
The commune integrates the new city of Melun-Sénart in 1973 (it will leave there in 1983). Districts of the Pre German Saint (promoter: Kaufman & Broad), the flowered Valley, Clear Field or the Field of Rochefort leaves ground at that time. The commune then obtains a genuine commercial apparatus with the achievement of the shopping mall of the green cross, as well as college and of two additional schools (the old school in addition is moved and increased to allow the reception of the new schoolboys). Thus, between the censuses of 1968 and 1975, the commune sees its population multiplying by seven, passing from 600 inhabitants to more than 4000, seven years later.
