Saint-Georges-of-Clarenceville
Saint-Georges-with-Clarenceville is a municipality of the regional Municipalité of county of Haut-Richelieu with the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the Montérégie.
Municipal history
The municipality of Clarenceville was set up in 1845 before being integrated into the municipality of the county of Rouville two years later. The latter will be amputee of part of her territory with the creation of the municipality of parish of St George in 1855 before taking the current name of Saint-Georges-of-Clarenceville in 1957. However, the current municipality will be carried out only in 1989 with the fusion of the municipality of Saint-Georges-of-Clarenceville with the village of Clarenceville (1920).
Toponymy
The name Clarenceville would be connected to William, duke of Clarence (1765 - 1837), third wire of the British king George III and which assembled on the throne under the name of Guillaume IV. As regards Saint-Georges this one probably comes from the father from this last.
