Saint-Georges-with-the Oyapock is a common French, located in the department of the Guyana.
The village owes its origin with creation at the 19th century of a bagne of which there remains any more no current trace, contrary to that of the money mountain. Indeed, that is explained by the fact why it was entirely built out of wood. The church of the village is the only visible trace of work rédemptoire of these parvenus of the Republic. During its construction, it gave its name to the village. The convicts discovered during the digging of the foundations a Dutch coin representing Saint Georges.
The city is located at 60 kilometers of the mouth on left bank of the Oyapock which constitutes the border with the Brésil. The Brazilian frontier city nearest is Oiapoque on other bank.
Downstream, on the basis of Saint-Georges of Oyapock, one finds successively the hamlets of Tampack (to 5 km, either 15 minutes in the dugout) and Three Mangroves (to 20 km, or 45 minutes in the dugout). These hamlets belong to the commune.
The city is served by the trunk road 2 since 2003, and by an aerodrome. There exists a project of bridge on the Oyapock between Brazil and Saint-Georges-in-the Oyapock which should concretize in 2008.
One notes the presence of a station of the 3 {{E}} foreign regiment of infantry on the commune.
