Saint-Flour-of-Mercoire

Saint-Flour-with-Mercoire is a common French, located in the department of the Lozere and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Saint-Flouriens.

Geography

The village is located near the Forest of Mercoire on a granitic plate of: 1090 ha, with: 1000 m of altitude. Four villages compose the commune: Choisinets, Huts, Herm and the chief town St Flour de Mercoire.

History

The Ladies of Mercoire had founded this parish of St Flour and perceived the dîme, named the priest and ensured his treatment. The Bête of Gévaudan made there its first victims during the summer 1764.

The small church, preserved well, has a nave with 2 spans, the second decorated with arcades. The old bell-tower was demolished in 1793.
