Saint-Etienne-of-Tinée
Saint-Etienne - of Tinée ( Sant Estève de Tinèa in Occitan nissard) is a common French, located in the department of the the Alpes-Maritimes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.
This common was also called Saint-Etienne-with-Mounts to the Dix-neuvième century.
Its inhabitants is the Stéphanois .
Geography
Saint-Etienne-of-Tinée is located near the National park of Mercantour. Auron is a winter sports resort located in this commune.
Named " sancti stephani tinænsis" by the first Christians, then until 1860 named Santo-Stefano by the Italian , Saint-Etienne-of-Tinée knew a long story. It belonged to the States of Savoy, then with the Royaume of Piedmont-Sardinia (like the whole of the Comté of Nice) before its fastening with the France in 1860. One lived folded up there on oneself, because of the very difficult connections with the close valleys and the littoral. To leave 1900, the widening of the roads and the appearance of the car made it possible the village of to develop, however in 1929 a terrible fire destroyed most of Saint Etienne de Tinée. The village owed its rebirth only with one subscription launched in all the communes of France and with the dynamism of its M.Rovery mayor. In recognition of this subscription, one of the main arteries of the village names " Street of the Communes of France".
