History
-
the origin of St-Estève is in a Roman Villa named “Acutianum”. This land field thrived and was taken again by the Carolingien S during the 8th century and 9th century. In 995 one finds the village under the name of “Aguzan Villa”.
-
In 1040 and following the example Rivesaltes which will do it later 300 years, the villagers of St-Estève digs a channel water supply, resulting from the Têt.
- In 1149, St-Estève is a Seigneurie as all the others whose first owners are unknown for us.
-
In the current of the 12th century, the seigniory belonged to the family of Montesquieu (in Vallespir), then with the crown of Aragon of which it was alienated in 1357 to pass then in the hands of various people.
-
the history of the city to the Moyen-âge escapes to us, it returns to us in 1642 during the seat of Perpignan by Louis XIII, which will establish his General headquarter with St-Estève, more exactly at the smallholding “In Johan Pauques” which will become, of the blow, “Farmhouses Del Rey” (the Catalans will include/understand obviously, but for the others which want to translate, that means: The Farmhouse Of the King.)
