Saint-Edouard church
The church is dedicated to saint Edouard the Confessor, king of the England of 1047 with 1066.
The years 1890
The years 1890 knew one period of expansion among most outstanding of the town of Montreal.La Parish Saint-Edouard and its church are the fruit.
1895: Formation of the parish
In 1895, an assembly was convened by the Chanoine Bruchesi and the formation of a parish was requested from the quasi-unanimity. The December 14th 1895, Monseigneur Edouard-Charles Fabre set up the parish which presents a request to the Archevêque of Montreal to obtain the construction of a temporary Chapelle on the street Saint-Denis as well as the presence of a priest residing. The request was accepted and construction began.
1896: Opening of the vault
The Chapelle on the street Saint-Denis opened its doors in the month of May 1896. Hundred twenty families populate the parish.
1897: Population growth
In 1897, the Parish account already 400 family. The Chapelle of the street Saint-Denis answered the request a few years only due to the Population growth fulgurating of this end of Siècle. The construction of a larger establishment is essential.
The years 1900
1901: The construction of the church and the presbytery
In 1901, the parishioners decided that the construction of a church and a Presbytère is necessary and chose the Architecte Joseph-Arthur Godin to prepare the plans of the Soubassement.
1905: Population growth
The Paroisse reaches 1.200 families in 1905.
1906: Change of plan
In 1906, the parishioners accepted the plans of the Architecte Joseph-Ovide Turgeon for the higher church.
1907: Construction of the church
The construction of the higher church began in 1907. The stone Calcaire is extracted from the career Martineau where the Parc Father is located today Inlays.
1909: Completion of the church
The church was terminéeen 1909. The whole of the facing of the frontage S of the church consists of elements of stone embossed Calcaire. arrow S of Cuivre surmount the Clocher S.
1922: Installation of the bells
The bell S, manufactured by the house Georges Pacard in Haute-Savoie, are installed there in 1922.
The Seventies
In the middle of the years 1970, the Architecte John Bland proceeds to the restoration of the whole of the colors and draws, in a spirit Contemporain, the furnace bridge of celebration and the ambon.
