Saint-Cloud is a common department of the Hauts-de-Seine, in the area Île-de-France, in France. Saint-Cloud is one of the common Frenchwomen where the population is one of richest hexagonal territory, just like some other cities of the Hauts-de-Seine such as Neuilly-sur-Seine or Boulogne-Billancourt. Many French public personalities reside there.
Geography
The commune is bordered in north by
Suresnes, the west by
Rueil-Malmaison and
Garches and in the south by
Sevres, City-with Avray and
Vaucresson. Its Eastern limit is materialized by the
the Seine which separates it from the commune of
Boulogne-Billancourt.
Its inhabitants are called Clodoaldiens.

History
- At the 5th century after J. - C., the monk Clodoald, grandson of Clovis and wire of Clodomir Ier, king d' Orléans, preferred the stick of bishop to the crown of the kingdom of the Francs. Clodoald, deciding to move away from the quarrels of being able carried out by his/her uncles, was installed in Novigentum, on the edge of the Seine, a hamlet then populated loggers and fishermen. It made there build a Monastère of which there remains still a wall (place of Moustier). After its death in 560, miracles took place around its tomb and he was canonized during the 7th century. The village then took the name of “Sanctus Clodoaldus” which gives Saint-Cloud today. The gatherings at the time of the pilgrimages towards the city of the saint are at the origin of the current festival of Saint-Cloud (one of the oldest fun fairs of France).
- In 1589, Henri III, which had settled in the castle built in Saint-Cloud by Jerome de Gondi to lead the head office of Paris, held by the Members of a league, is assassinated there by the monk Jacques Clément. Henri IV is recognized there king.
- Near Paris, the Castle of Saint-Cloud and his park, created starting from 1658 by the duke of Orleans, brother of Louis XIV, played a big role in the French history at the 19th century. Louis XVI acquired in of it 1785 to offer it to Marie-Antoinette. Napoleon Bonaparte carried out there his coup d'etat of the 18 brumaire year VIII (November 9th 1799) and made its favorite residence of it. Napoleon III was proclaimed there Empereur on December 1st 1852. The castle was set fire to by the Prussian on October 13rd 1870.
- on May 31st 1868, it is in Saint-Cloud that the first cycle race in France took place.
- Of 1882 with 1987, the commune lodged a National university.
Demography
Administration
Since January 1st, 2005, a Communauté of agglomeration was established between Saint-Cloud, Garches and Vaucresson. This one took the name of Communauté of Cœur agglomeration of the Seine.
The mayor of Saint-Cloud is Eric Berdoati (UMP), elected on June 13rd, 2005 following the resignation of Bertrand Cuny.
The commune represents a canton. The general adviser is Odile Fourcade.
Monuments
- National Field of Saint-Cloud (or Parc of Saint-Cloud), which contained the castle, residence of holiday of several French sovereigns. The gardens with the Frenchwoman, drawn by Ours, were preserved. The surface is of 460 hectares (more half of the surface of the commune).
- Garden of Tourneroches: It offers one of the panoramic sights more seizing department, centered on the Eiffel lathe and embracing the Bois de Boulogne and Paris since the natural balcony of the slopes. Events
The 2nd edition of the festival rock'n'roll took place in the park of Saint-Cloud August 27th and 28th 2004.
It gathered prestigious rock groups like: the explosive duet of the White Stripes, the mythical combo Sonic Youth, the trio sails very about it MUSE or Morcheeba and Massive Attack.
The electronic musics also were with the honor with the Chemical Brothers.
The rock group psychedelic Archive in addition gave to it a concert which remained in the memories of the festival ones.
The third edition of the festival took place August 25th and 26th 2005.
One saw there inter alia, the Canadians of Arcade Fire, and the Scot of Franz Ferdinand, even if the public initially came masses some to attend the concert of mythical the Pixies (reformed in 2004).
Electronic side, the techno rock'n'roll of Vitalic filled with enthusiasm rare refractories with the preceding concert.
The amateurs of more brutal rock'n'roll benefitted from a concert from the Foo Fighters and Queens off the Stone Age. The former singer of Led Zeppelin Robert Plant was also of the part.
The fourth edition of the festival was held Friday and Saturday the 25th and August 26th, 2006.
The great event of this year was English of Radiohead taken along by Thom Yorke and who had made on this occasion their only concert in France for several years. Other groups like The Tellers, group parallel with the White Stripes taken along both by Jack White, The Dirty Pretty Things or Nada Surf were also present. Morrisey and Beck also formed part of the heads of poster of the festival.
