Saint-Clement-of-Liftings is a common French, located in the department of Maine-et-Loire and the area Pays of the Loire.
Geography
ST CLEMENT OF the LIFTINGS extends on 1000 ha in this merry part of Anjou called Loire Valley. The long agglomeration of almost 3 km was built on and in foot of this lifting, itself built during the centuries to dam up the overflows of the river. Formerly depend on the parish of Truces located from now on on other bank, the name of St-Clement was given in homage to Patron saint of the marines. The city indeed has 7 pilot ports of a rich person activity of marines still at last century. With the doors of the city, St-Clement of the Liftings is a rural district which makes a point of keeping its character. It is all besides the direction of its adhesion since 1995 at the community of common LOIRE-LONGUE. Located at 10 minutes of the center of Saumur, the " city; Bead of Anjou" constitute the basin of life and use of many Clémentais, that it is for the studies of the young people, the community activity, the trade, the leisures. In the middle of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional natural park, St-Clement of the Liftings benefits from easy means of communication: crossed of two secondary roads, regular circuits of bus make it possible to join by three daily return tickets the towns of Saumur and Angers.
History
Old village of marines along the Loire.The village of Saint-Clement-of-Liftings was constituted with the crossroads of the way called Grand' Voie, coming from Longué, and the Great Lifting of Anjou. During all Middle Ages, the small agglomeration, named Perrelerie on the Lifting, constituted a parish depending on that of Trier, in addition to the Loire. In 1505, a vault dedicated to Saint-Clement was set up there, giving its name to the village. With 18th and 19th century the population of the marines being in constant increase, the old church, become too exgüe, was destroyed and replaced by the current church, completed in 1849. The latter was included in the organization of a place framed by a new town hall and a prebytère. In the middle of the 19th century the river traffic being important, a port was arranged, in 1860, with the southern side of the lifting. The houses of the village are established on the northern side of this one and appear to be rebuilt as from the 18th century. At the end is village remain the commun runs of a manor of the 16th century.
