Let us notice that nature, here, is very whole with the clearers. It does not offer anything to the Muses. Not quiet sheets of water where the stars and the azure are reflected, not foaming waves. On the other hand, you have the breezes of the east, the rustle of the leafy trees, the light murmur of the rivers and the brooks.
A few years after the creation of the municipality in 1859, the parish is set up in 1867. The church, built with the locality of the square , is inaugurated in 1881 pennies the good officess of the bishop of Sherbrooke.
Several personalities marked the history of Saint-Camille. Among them, Joseph-Zoël Cyr-Miquelon influenced in a notable way the first years of the municipality. Land-surveyor and poet, Zoël Miquelon occupied several stations of importance in the community. He is also the inventor of the lock with numbers. One of the main streets of the municipality bears its name today.
Joseph-Herménégilde Crépeau, merchant, were another important figure of the municipality. Mayor during more than 40 years, is of 1896 to 1930 and of 1932 to 1937, he is the father of the founder, Armand-Charles Crépeau, land-surveyor-geometrician, of the firm of engineering Teknika HBA, which is always in activity and employs today more than 700 employees.
Saint-Camille has a relatively high number of organizations active and structuring if his small size is considered. Among them, some played a big role in becoming to it municipality.
As of the beginning of the year 1980, the Group of the corner, a private corporation of capital risks made up of citizen-born village, was created to on sale buy and preserve the Community vocation of the historical buildings of the village at the time of their setting. The Group of the corner assumed the transition between the old use and the news which was to be been born.
Thus the old general store was converts into a theater and of exposure, P' tit Bonheur of Saint-Camille. This place accommodates, since 1988, the professional artists of the province and besides and remains one of the important places of diffusion of the culture in the area. More than one artistic place, P' tit Bonheur is also the heart of the Community life of the village. Gathering place, it accommodates twice per week of the meals offered to the children of the elementary school and to the community: the travelling cooking, Tuesday, makes it possible to join the isolated elderly; and the pizza pie of Friday, is a means of self-financing of the organization since its all beginnings. All the meals are made by the voluntary ones, which are, in all, around a hundred “to be put the shoulder to the wheel”.
P' tit Bonheur also carries a shutter of animation and formation which is articulated mainly around a committee called the Center of interpretation of rural environment (CIMR). It is in collaboration with the CIMR that the University of Sherbrooke offers, with Saint-Camille, a microprogram in ethics of the decisions.
P' tit Bonheur also offers rental spaces. The offices of the co-operative of solidarity the Key of the fields of Saint-Camille are located there. Specialized in the production of baskets of vegetables and forest products not-ligneous family, its mission is to support agricultural and forest diversification while reinstating the transformation and the marketing of its products at the local level.
The second building to benefit from the action of the Group of the corner is the old presbytery of the village. Transformed into 2001 in co-operative of dwelling for the elder ones of the village, one rents there also spaces with therapeutists and a co-operative of solidarity who offer their services to the residents of the building and to the whole of the population.
Since the beginning of the century, one of the major consequences of the demographic Déclin will have been the loss of several trade and local services (general slaughter-houses, flour-millings, butter factories, stores and garages).
The possible loss of the office of the stations to the beginning of the year 1990 and the chronic lack children to supplement the class of nursery school at the elementary school were elements releases in the step aiming at countering the demographic decrease and the devitalisation which accompanied it.
In 2001, the Statistical institute of Quebec made public of the population forecasts for the whole of the regional munipalities of county (MRC) of the Quebec. In this report/ratio, the MRC of the Sources (in the past Asbestos) was the only MRC in Estrie where one envisaged a demographic fall from here 2026 (2001-2026), that is to say a fall of 8,9%.
Vis-a-vis this situation, the municipality of the Canton of Saint-Camille launched, in 2001, an action plan making it possible various actors of the community to reflect and act together. Thus, the municipality and its citizen-born, the socio-economic corporation of development of Saint-Camille, the elementary school Christ-King, the OBNL P' tit Happiness, the co-operative of Solidarity the Key of the fields, the popular Case Desjardins, two owners of grounds and the possible purchasers linked their forces in order to develop two domiciliary projects in the municipality and to increase the population of 10% in ten years.
These two projects seeming to receive the interest of a good number of families, the village anticipates the installation of several households in the next years.
the diplomatic newspaper Le Monde rented the efforts of the inhabitants of the village to reduce the demographic Déclin.
